Awesome game last night! The girls played unbelievable good. We scored more points than we had all year and won 67-57. Our defense and rebounding wasn't great but we shot lights out! It was a great team effort and as always the girls left all they had on the floor and played with great intensity.
Our shooting guard was on fire, scoring a career high 29 points while shooting over 60% from the floor. Our point guard chipped in 13 points including 3 three pointers from NBA range or possibly farther out. It's funny to hear the crowd when she goes into launch mode...you can hear the gasps and the "what is she thinking" whispers but then....SWISH, the ball goes through and I can feel their eyes on me like, "Does he really allow her to shoot those?"
Answer: Yes, I do. She shoots them in practice and actually makes them most of the time. It's a great weapon to have. Most girls can't even throw the ball that far much less shoot with a thought that it might go in but she is not like most girls. 5'5, 125 lbs and yet has no conscience and launches from anywhere on the floor. She holds the school record for most 3's in a career and didn't even play last year. The picture is of her on the floor wrestling the ball away from a Santiago player. Totally typifies how she plays: Bruises up and down her legs but the toughest girl I've ever coached.
Anyway, both guards have been our MVPs all year and they showed what they were capable of last night. They are both seniors and have been a pleasure to get to know and coach. They definitely make me look good and make up for my deficiencies when it comes to Xs and Os.
Tomorrow night we will be playing St. Margarets (20-3) whom we already played this year. We lost by 13 but it was close throughout so it should be a good game. According to the local paper, it is only the 2nd time in school history that the girls' basketball team has made it to the 2nd round of CIF and they've never made the 3rd round. Hopefully we can continue our magical season.
It was a great night and it's been a great season to be a Lady Breaker! Thank you all for your interest and support. Who would've thought that girls' basketball could be so exciting!?!?!

This is more exciting than the WNBA, congrats. Just because I am an alumni did Estancia make CIF, if so how are they doing?
Noodles, unfortunately (thanks to us beating them 3 times), Estancia did not make the playoffs. Sorry. You wouldn't recognize your former school. School population under 1000.
Sports have gone down hill since 1989. They are still decent at golf though...so you got that going for you.
